Scott Cannon: The Anti-Fracking Activist, Bully and Liar

Misinformation Turns to Fracking News - Karen OrlandoKaren Orlando

Scott Cannon, an anti-fracking activist who has made over 50 internet videos showing supposed adverse effects of gas drilling, is attempting to silence Karen Orlando by bullying her online.

“You get paid to write blogs from Tom Shepstone on his Natural Gas Now website to discredit activists who oppose some gas development. We’ll, that takes away any questions on your bias, now doesn’t it?” says Scott Cannon to me via what appears to me to be the standard operating procedure of an anti-fracking activist.

That standard operating procedure is: bullying, lying and making false accusations whether online or in person and this behavior is not limited to targeting politicians, FERC employees, and natural gas industry employees but extends to anyone who dares to open their mouth to speak words that are not the talking points of the anti-fracking movement. Even me.

Even though there are lots of letters to FERC, a certificate order on the Rockaway Lateral project in fact and lots of evidence that says otherwise, Scott Cannon as an activist can just say whatever he likes about me. That’s just how he rolls.

Scott Cannon, who according to State Impact PA, enjoys calling people gasholes

It is no secret that the great fracking war is divisive. As early as fall 2011, a NY times headline describing how “civility is fading” in the fight over gas drilling was likely an understatement. How disgusting and low the actual behavior is of the activists involved has to be known to people other than me who get close to this issue.

It’s shocking that this behavior is then celebrated and encouraged by environmental leaders and politicians. Scott Cannon is not the first anti-fracking activist to absurdly and falsely accuse me of either being a shill for the gas industry, a spy or some other crap, but at least he is not someone who has met me like some of the activists at the Sane Energy Project, United for Action or Coalition Against the Rockaway Pipeline among others. Nor will he be the last I imagine.

Sane Energy Project brought 2 dozen folks from NYC to join activists from Popular Resistance to “Point the Finger at FERC!”

Posts on this blog are labeled “activists gone wild” for a reason. Here is a link to a group that Scott Cannon is associated with called the Gas Drilling Awareness Coalition. Apparently the website has a disclaimer where hey.. the organization basically says themselves that they can’t guarantee the accuracy of what they say. Shocker!  The website  also says the following:

“We acknowledge that each individual group member in their actions and speech, represent the coalition as a whole, and therefore are reminded to be mindful in speaking and acting in a manner that professionally and respectfully represents the group as a whole.”

Scott Cannon is a fine example of what the activism against fracking, natural gas and pipelines looks like.

Editor’s Note: For the record, Karen Orlando has never been paid so much as one dime for her posts here. In fact, I’ve never met her or so much as talked with her by phone. She is also not a pro-gas activist. She is simply an individual who had some legitimate concerns about a pipeline project and wanted to influence the final decisions regarding it but found her attempts at a reasonable discussion were completely lost in a cacophony of lies, distortions and absurd speculation from fractivists interested in nothing but their precious ideology. We repost her blog post here to demonstrate how fractivism is wearing out its welcome among reasonable people..

  1. Law 3 – Corollary 3

    The 3 Laws:
    The First Law of Environmentalists:
No matter how well we are doing, we are not doing enough.
Corollary 1: Unless humans do absolutely nothing to change the environment – then humans are bad.
    The Second Law of Environmentalists:
The goal of the environmental movement to stop the creation of babies.
Corollary 2: Since humans are bad – we need to stop all production of humans.
    The Third Law of Environmentalists:
The end justifies the means, any means.
Corollary 3: Any means includes lying, cheating, stealing, any publicity, amy legal system approach, etc…
Corollary 4: Eco-terrorism is on the table. Simple Example: Spiking Trees.
Corollary 5: “The sky is always falling”

    Discourse is “out the window”

  2. I enjoy calling antis watermelons! (Thanks Ezra.)
I started the gashole thing a lomg time ago by saying (keep your hands off my gashole NY!)
And what the hell does civility have to do with any of this?
Cry us a high volume high presure tranport pipeline of tears.
All NY or No NY. Pipelines hooked to NY wells would be real good for NY consumers.

  3. How could you write a piece about who Scott Cannon really is and not include this video titled:What the Shale Reality Tour Didn’t Show. By simply driving to the site of a Scott Cannon farce, one could quickly see how deceitful his work really is.

    • Impressive detecive work! You’ve proven that this house has goats and a manure pile! But what do goats have to do with the fact Cabot contaminated this family’s water and paid them in the settlement? Proof once again that intellegent people read these silly blogs.
