The One Chart That Explains Everything About Pipeline Opposition

One chart demonstrates why the Delaware Povertykeeper, Clean Air Council and the rest of the pipeline opposition spends so much gentry class cash on it.

Jim Willis uncovers more invaluable news about the natural gas industry in the Appalachian shale basin than anyone else I know. He and his Marcellus Drilling News have their ears close to the ground and a subscription is a must if you don’t already have one. Yesterday, he posted one of his most important posts ever titled “Price of NatGas Doubles… Thanks to Atlantic Sunrise Pipe.” That should be enough to get your attention but the chart he included made the point ever more poignantly.

The chart is from BloombergMarkets:

pipeline opposition

The data BloombergMarkets has collected and Jim analyzes in detail shows the price has essentially doubled since the Atlantic Sunrise went online. Therein lies the reason for the rabid pipeline opposition from the Delaware Povertykeeper, Clean Air Council, Catskill Mountainkeeper, NRDC, et al. These are the entities funded by the Haas and Rockefeller families for the purpose of frustrating natural gas development that raises land prices and makes it harder for them to make a wilderness playground in their backyard.

Think about it. Given the record from the Susquehanna River Basin, and numerous recent studies, including this one from Australia, there is no evidence natural gas development is the slightest threat to the Delaware River Basin or any other area of the country. Its contributions to reducing emissions and improving air quality are well documented. Moreover, there is proof of far more serious threats to air and water quality downstream, as we shown repeatedly.

So, what other possible reason can there be for these organizations to launch an all-consuming campaign of fracking and pipeline opposition? The answer is obvious; that’s what the funders are paying them to do and if one follows the money back to the source it becomes even more clear what the objective is.

It is, as Vivian Krause, so articulately put it, to “strategically parkify” as much of their backyards as possible. That’s the motivation. Phony water quality and air quality issues are but fig leaves for the greedy pursuit of land; land now controlled by the peasantry that the gentry class wants for itself.

The Atlantic Sunrise, by providing an outlet for Appalachian natural gas, has doubled the price and changed the economics of “strategic parkification” in the region. That’s why the NRDC gang and friends have stepped up their opposition to the Northeast Supply Enhancement Project, why the fight over the Constitution Pipeline continues and why the Delaware Povertykeeper is so focused on delaying the PennEast pipeline.

Today’s pipeline opposition is driven by the knowledge of what pipelines represent; the ability to market more gas at higher prices and thereby raise land values. Anything that raises land values is a threat to the parkification agenda; to making a wilderness playground for the gentry class.

  1. Thanks for your kind words Tom. Right back at ya! Natural Gas Now is always a must-read for me. Your insights into those who oppose the industry is invaluable. And you’re an exceptional writer to boot!

  2. Since you keep pushing this fantasy of yours and it’s from your imagination, making allegations of “gentry” wanting to buy out the lands for their own park and playground,
show purchases of lands in Wayne County by so-called
“gentry” that are just sitting there and how many bought the past ten years ?
how many farms and properties for sale in Wayne County
and the rate of sales per year since ten years ago?
is it going up in sales or down or what?

and here are some facts and data about the gas industry in my county and not fantasy..
Cabot is up to 688 DEP Violations in my Susquehanna County since 2007…and keeps climbing month by month and casing failures and casing/cement defects keep happening with Cabot and other gas companies in my county.
When will they get it right? it’s been over ten years….!

    • Vera: When are you moving to frack – free NY to escape all the death, destruction, and pollution that you fantasize existing in Susquehanna County PA? For that matter, when is PA going to implement Der Fuhrer Cuomo’s lie of a “health review” that he relied upon to ban drilling in NY to protect you from all the destruction? FYI: not a single state of the 30 that allow fracking have stopped due to Cuomo’s hoax because it relies on junk science and junk medicine.
