Delaware Riverkeeper Upended by Court in Hypocritical Case

…

The Delaware Riverkeeper a/k/a Povertykeeper loses another case, but what makes it interesting is the stance taken by this William Penn Foundation shill.

The Big Green group otherwise known as THE Delaware Riverkeeper (leftist political lobbying arm for the William Penn Foundation that funds it) filed a lawsuit in March in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third District. It requested the court overturn a Clean Water Act permit granted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for Kinder Morgan’s Orion Project in northeast Pennsylvania. Earlier this week, in a humiliating defeat, the Third Circuit rejected Riverkeeper’s request and ruled the Army Corps was well within its right to grant the permit (full copy of the ruling below).

Microgrid Power Plants Powered by Natural Gas Spreading

delaware riverkeeper - Jim Willis reports

…

Microgrid power plants powered by natural gas are the new and upcoming thing. They’re even coming to Philadelphia, home of the William Penn Foundation.

We’re starting to see more and more news about natural gas-fired microgrids, used for “peaking”. Microgrids are small electric generating plants, most often powered by natural gas. They usually produce a few megawatts of electricity. The concept of “peaking” means that during times of high electricity demand, these small microgrids kick on and produce electricity to help meet the demand. Although New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo doesn’t want fracking in the Empire State, he’s in the midst of paying for 11 microgrids throughout the state—all of them using natural gas, mostly fracked gas from Pennsylvania). The wave doesn’t end there, though.

The Delaware Riverkeeper’s Personal De-Growth Agenda

Natural Gas NOW

…

The Delaware Riverkeeper Network is ever more the personal tool of a leader at war against any growth in her own backyard. The Delaware River is irrelevant.

The Delaware Riverkeeper Network is supposed to be a 501(c)3 charity. It is, in reality, a political action group financed by the William Penn Foundation and other elitist trust-funders. It’s fundamental purpose is to lay the foundation for land grabs up and down the Delaware. It’s focus is fighting oil and gas and other development everywhere, as such development presents a distinct obstacle to its “strategic parkification” plans.

The Delaware Riverkeeper personified, of course, is Maya van Rossum, who is assisted by her Deputy Executive Director, Tracy Carluccio, the sister of the long-time chair of the organization and its effective representative on the New Jersey Highlands Council. The whole thing is very much an inside operation. Moreover, the organization is essentially now serving as the personal weapon of these two individuals to pursue their own NIMBY and radical de-growth agendas as they lend a hand to the efforts of the NRDC gang and the Haas family to make a wilderness of much of the region; the Delaware River merely being the excuse to attract funding for these sundry activities.

Carpetbagging Delaware Riverkeeper Loses SWPA Case

delaware riverkeeper - Jim Willis reports

…

The Delaware Riverkeeper, financed by the Haas and Wallace families to kill Keystone State fracking and opportunity, just lost big in a Southwestern PA case.

THE Delaware Riverkeeper (i.e. Maya van Rossum) and a small group of anti-drilling parents from the Mars School District (“Martians”) in Butler County, Pennsylvania (more than 200 miles from the Delaware River, the protection of which is supposedly the former’s mission) have just suffered a crushing defeat in their years-long battle to prevent Rex Energy from drilling wells “near” a local school.

How the Funders of the Delaware Riverkeeper Live

SolarCity - Tom Shepstone ReportsTom Shepstone
Shepstone Management Company, Inc.

The Delaware Riverkeeper, a shameless opponent of any economic development of the Upper Delaware region, is funded by rich elitists who want it for playtime.

No group has done more to fight against the interests of those trying to make a living in the Upper Delaware region than the Delaware Riverkeeper. It is primarily enabled by the William Penn Foundation, a private foundation created and tightly controlled by the Haas family, heirs of a fortune made in chemicals, who spend enormous sums on fractivist initiatives.

We’ve written about them numerous times, of course, and pointed out how the Delaware Riverkeeper, the Foundation and the Delaware River Basin Commission, along with other shill organizations, have effectively colluded to deny the Upper Delaware region any hope for real economic progress related to gas drilling, even as neighboring areas enjoy the benefits. The Foundation, though, is where the money comes from and we’ve spent too little time laying out exactly who the Haas family is and how they live while financing the demise of our economy.

Deep Green Resistance and Friends More Red Than Green

…

Deep Green Resistance is both radical and dangerous and it’s made alliances with the favorite fractivist shills of a supposedly respectable gentry class.

Deep Green Resistance is a very dangerous organization. The group’s operation manual, “Decisive Ecological Warfare,” is a diatribe on how to “disrupt and dismantle industrial civilization.” Among the strategies for doing so is “engag[ing] in direct militant actions against industrial infrastructure, especially energy infrastructure.” The whole enterprise is “aimed at identifying key points and bottlenecks in the adversary’s system (electrical, transport, financial, and so on) and engaging them to collapse those systems or reduce their functionality.” Deep Green Resistance is radically opposed to civilization as we know it and it has friends in strange places.

The Arrogant Orchestrated World of Fractivism

fractivism - Tom ShepstoneTom Shepstone
Natural Gas NOW

…

Fractivism has been on full display this week as the arrogant orchestrated world of astroturf that it really is; a disdainful power grab financed by elites.

Yesterday, as I expected and feared would happen the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) surrendered yet again to the orchestrated efforts of one its own funders to intimidate it. A DRBC hearing at which the public was supposedly restricted to commenting “only on the items that have been advertised in the public hearing notice,” and at which there was supposed to be “NO open public comment session,” was allowed to become another fiasco of fractivism.

A Laughable Junk Science Study on the PennEast Pipeline

cost of renewables - Tom ShepstoneTom Shepstone
Natural Gas NOW

…

The Delaware Povertykeeper has commissioned the most laughable, ridiculous junk science study imaginable on the economic impact of the PennEast Pipeline.

The Delaware Riverkeeper a/k/a Povertykeeper is out touting a new economic impact study, secured by the group, that claims a $13.3 to $56.6 billion negative economic impact from the PennEast Pipeline. I heard about this study a few days ago but, knowing anything from the Povertykeeper was likely to be something on the order of a Tarot Card reading, I paid little attention. Concerned readers, though, more or less insisted I do so. I have now reviewed it and can tell you it was well, worth reading for the laughs.

Tanning Chemical Fortune Pollutes Delaware River Politics

cost of renewables - Tom ShepstoneTom Shepstone
Natural Gas NOW

…

The Haas family, heirs to a fortune made in tanning chemicals, is using the William Penn Foundation to pollute Delaware River politics everywhere one looks.

Jim Willis has a great post over at Marcellus Drilling News regarding a StateImpactPA story about the work of the latter’s own benefactor, the William Penn Foundation. As Jim notes:

One of the worst of the worst non-profit organizations that continues to fund anti-shale activities in the Marcellus/Utica is the William Penn Foundation. By all rights their non-profit (i.e. tax-free) status issued by the IRS should be revoked because of their overt support of anti-fracking initiatives. But we’re not holding our breath … Millions of dollars buys a lot of influence (and a lot of people) … StateImpactPA is a mouthpiece for William Penn. So we found it interesting that they ran an article (no doubt commissioned by William Penn) that admits William Penn and nearly $100 million (from William Penn and other sources) is at the nexus of some 40 “conservation” groups colluding in their attempt to keep development out of the Delaware River Basin. That development includes farming and shale drilling.

StateImpactPA‘s story is, as might be expected, is a puff piece. It discusses something called the Delaware River Watershed Initiative, questions what it has achieved in cleaning up water quality, concludes it’s not much at all and then hypes the future potential. The real story, of course, isn’t told at all.

Tax-Exempt Enviro Flim-Flam Groups “Partner”

delaware riverkeeper - Jim Willis reports

Jim Willis
Editor & Publisher, Marcellus Drilling News (MDN)

…

PennFuture and Conservation Voters of PA, two tax-exempt environmental film-flam groups, have decided to partner, making a mockery of charity taxation rules.

Two radical Pennsylvania-based “environmental” groups are not exactly merging; but almost. One group is PennFuture, which gave rise to such luminaries as John Quigley (fired as Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection), John Hanger (left the state, former DEP Secretary, ran for governor last time, lost, supports legalizing pot), and Cindy Dunn (currently Secretary of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources). PennFuture is tax exempt, yet it routinely engages in political activity in violation of its IRS 501(c)(3) status. The other group is Conservation Voters of PA, a 501(c)(4) advocacy organization affiliated with a political action committee (PAC). This partnership makes  total mockery of IRS rules on political activities by charities.
