Fracking Is Here To Stay – Get Over It!

….
….

The Colorado Supreme Court just embraced the rule of law, rejecting the fear mongering of fracking opponents. It’s now time for fractivists to get over it.

On Monday, May 2 the Colorado Supreme Court ruled on what the New York Times (NYT) called: “a lengthy battle for energy production.” The court’s unanimous decision to strike down two cities’ limits on fracking is a victory for oil-and-gas companies and a “disappointment” to anti-fossil-fuel activists. Several states, including Colorado’s neighbors, New Mexico and Texas, have faced similar anti-oil-and-gas initiatives that have also been shot down. It’s time for fractivists to accept fracking is here to stay and to just get over it.

The Lobbying Lie That Just Won’t Go Away

Fracking Lobby Sham - Tom Shepstone reportsTom Shepstone
Natural Gas NOW

…

There’s a big lie that just won’t go away. It’s the lobbying lie perpetrated by fractivists funded by elitist special interest groups with political agendas.

There’s no bigger lie than the lobbying lie repeatedly told by fractivist outfits who spend vastly more themselves under the cover of being non-profit charities. I wrote about this a while back, noting how the Park Foundation, in particular, regularly funded Common Cause to issue reports that spread the lobbying lie and, now, they’re at it again with a report from the “Public Accountability Initiative” funded by Park. The lobbying lie just won’t go away.

More Junk Science: The Duke Housing Study

Climate Witch Trials - Jim Willis reports

Jim Willis
Editor & Publisher, Marcellus Drilling News (MDN)

Duke University, one of the Park Foundation’s pets, has dutifully come out with another study attacking fracking; this time it’s a Duke housing study.

Once or twice a year anti-fossil fuel “researchers” at Duke University issue another “publish or perish” term paper taking aim at the Marcellus/Utica Shale and call it a study. A few weeks ago the latest in a string of such biased reports was issued by Duke – this one claiming property values go down when Marcellus Shale drilling comes to a community. The Duke housing study is just one more example of how news is manufactured for use in the fractivist echo chamber created by the Park Foundation and friends.

NY Fractivists Block Seneca Lake Facility

Climate Witch Trials - Jim Willis reports

Jim Willis
Editor & Publisher, Marcellus Drilling News (MDN)

A group of NY Fractivists dressed up as Santa and the Grinch and danced around to block the Seneca Lake Facility claiming fossil fuels are “naughty.”

We’ve written many stories over the past few years about anti-drilling zealots who oppose the plan to convert a depleted salt cavern owned by Crestwood Equity Partners (nee Crestwood Midstream) along the shore of Seneca Lake, in Schuyler County, NY, to store liquefied petroleum gas (i.e. propane).

The protests are typically a dozen people or less and often organized by Sandra Steingraber, a minor celebrity in fractivist circles. Steingraber is a so-called “scholar in residence” at Ithaca College. They pay her to do nothing but trot around making anti-fracking speeches, no doubt funded with money from the Park Foundation. How to Produce Gas Drilling Headlines from Nothing

PennFuture - Tom ShepstoneTom Shepstone
Natural Gas NOW

Making gas drilling headlines requires no more than some speculation wrapped in the impenetrable gobbledy-gook language of academia and someone to report it.

We have a perfect example of how negative gas drilling headlines are made in a recent story that appeared in the Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania Citizens Voice. It’s illustrative of how fractivism works, even when the parties delivering it are largely innocent, which is precisely why it’s so nefarious. All that is required is something academic that raises a question, someone to report it and someone in an editor’s office to craft the catchy gas drilling headlines. No real evidence is required and, in fact, it would only serve to cloud the issue, as the point is to suggest the “can,” the “could” and the “may.” Throw in hard data and all those possibilities get watered down – better to stick to the speculation.

Is That All There Is, Tom Wilber?

PennFuture - Tom ShepstoneTom Shepstone
Natural Gas NOW

Tom Wilber has now completed his “The Promise of Fracking: Lessons from Pennsylvania” series and we’re left saying “Is that all there is, Tom?”

When I reviewed the first part of the new Tom Wilber series here, I introduced it with this overview:

The death of real journalism and the rise of advocacy journalism is marked not so much by what is said but, rather, by what is not said. That is Tom Wilber.

Now, all three segments have been published (Part 1Part 2Part 3) and we’ve had additional observations from Johnny Williams as well as an in-depth analysis by Nicole Jacobs over at Energy In Depth and we’ve all concluded the same thing; it’s what’s been left out that’s important to this series. But, there’s another troubling aspect as well. The series is nothing but a rehash of old accusations, long ago rendered false or irrelevant, by a newspaper reporter from the advocacy school of journalism, who thought he could make his name writing a book that recycled his old fracking stories, only to find himself back at the same newspaper, regurgitating them yet again. After reading the whole thing, I can only ask if that’s all there is.

Frack-O-Mania Resurges on the Hudson

PennFuture - Tom ShepstoneTom Shepstone
Natural Gas NOW

Frack-o-mania has resurged on the Hudson as pipeline opponents have resorted to usual lunacy and attracted wacky allies to come upriver and join in the fun.

The fractivist cause generates laugh out loud moments with regularity. That’s why we have a tab above for “Frack-O-Mania,” which largely consists of some the wacky imagery of fractivists combined with a quick observation and a poll question.  Occasionally, though the subject warrants a little more discussion. We have a fine example from Peekskill, New York, located up the Hudson River from Manhattan in Westchester County, where the Indian Point nuclear facility is located and Spectra is involved in some pipeline construction.

The Pipeline Wars

PennFuture - Tom ShepstoneTom Shepstone
Natural Gas NOW

The fractivist industry is focused on pipelines today as a way to frustrate oil and gas development and pipeline wars won’t be won by sitting on our hands.

I was privileged, this Tuesday, to participate in a Pittsburgh Energy Briefing put together by the BlankRome law firm. Their programs are always excellent and I try to attend them whenever possible. This year I was asked to be on panel discussing “Environmental Issues and Trends Affecting Energy Development.” Hoping some readers may be interested in the questions I was asked and how I answered them, I have detailed both below:

UCS Report Calling Out “Gambling” on Gas Quickly Rejected

NEPA Energy - Johnny Williams Johnny Williams
Freelance Journalist

The Union of Concerned Scientists (USC) is another fractivist tool bought and paid for rich special interest foundations but the latest USC report was a lousy investment.

The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), an environmental activism organization that has been funded in part by the usual special interest groups such as the Rockefellers, the Heinz Endowments and the Park Foundation, released a report this week entitled “Rating the States on Their Risk of Natural Gas Overreliance”, which was “made possible in part through the generous support of Common Sense Fund, Energy Foundation, The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, The Joyce Foundation, and Wallace Genetic Foundation, Inc.

Of course, these organizations need no introduction on this blog. Several of UCS’s funders have extensive histories of campaigning against natural gas and promoting scare-tactic fractivism, and the UCS report is just the latest edition.

The Speech Squelching, Pig Stuffing NY-PIRG Scam

PIRG - Tom Shepstone ReportsTom Shepstone
Shepstone Management Company, Inc.

There is no better example of modern day New York corruption – Tammany Hall reinvented – than NY-PIRG, the fractivist trial lawyer front scamming students.

We’ve told the story of the fractivist outfit New York Public Interest Research Group (NY-PIRG) here before when I wrote a post entitled “Stuffing the PIRG and Making Rain” last year and that was later followed up by another more extensive expose on “Jay Halfon: The Fractivist Rasputin” who is the force behind NY-PIRG and the man connected to seemingly every fractivist cause, organization and funding source. Halfon is rainmaker in chief for New York trial lawyers and is connected to both the Rockefellers’ Sustainable Markets Foundation and the Park Foundation. He has served as Executive Director of both the NY-PIRG and the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and according to NY-PIRG’s latest 990 return (fiscal year 2012), continues to serve as its paid President.

There’s little need to repeat the other facts from my two earlier posts, but some interesting new information has come to light regarding the way in which NY-PIRG has scammed both students and journalists while promoting fractivism and stuffing the pigs among the state’s trial lawyer community who are always looking for new causes and plaintiffs. They’ve favored some forms of student speech and suppressed others while picking student pockets and entangling them in junk science fiascos.
