The Shrinking Fractivist Play Book Down to the Flea Flicker

NED Pipeline - Tom Shepstone ReportsTom Shepstone

The fractivist play book keeps shrinking and they’re now down to flea flicker type moves that attract attention but seldom deliver anything but big losses.

Football, if it weren’t for the ridiculous politicization of the game this year, gets interesting in  December as marginal teams take chances to improve their prospects for getting into title games. One of the oddest of such maneuvers is the flea flicker play. It appears our fractivist friends have resorted to it with a bizarre accusation that the EPA fracking was modified to please the industry. Folks, if the fractivist play book is down to this, the game is over.

The Fractivist Mindset: Arrogant and Condescending

NED Pipeline - Tom Shepstone ReportsTom Shepstone

The recent election, whatever way one may have voted, really brought out the reality of the fractivist mindset; arrogant and condescending.

Readers of this blog have sent me links to two different tweets by perhaps the most prominent fractivists out there; Bill McKibben and Josh Fox. They reveal the incredible arrogance and condescension of those of the fractivist mindset. There is, in fact, very little more that needs to be said once you’ve seen them.

The Idiocracy of Fractivists and Their Junk Science

Regardless of the facts, those who are in opposition to gas refuse to believe that it can provide any good – unless it has electrolytes.

Some days I feel as if I had been put in a cryogenic chamber and have wakened up 500 years in the future like Luke Wilson in the movie Idiocracy. I feel as if the truth is right there in our face, yet some of us are too ignorant to realize it.

Keep It in the Ground? No, Give Us More Please and Faster!

….
….

There is a lot more to natural gas and other fossil fuels than energy and fuel, although Keep It in the Ground types would have us believe otherwise.

The biggest misconception anti-gas activists like to push is that there are real alternatives to fossil fuels in most every case. I see one fellow regularly comment on NaturalGasNow posts on Facebook saying just that. He never follows up with fact or responds when people ask him to elaborate. This is the gist of the anti message; that we can simply replace gas and oil. These are your typical “Keep It in the Ground” people.

New York State’s Natural Gas Hypocrisy

….
….

There is no natural gas hypocrisy like New York natural gas hypocrisy as recent Energy Information Administration data vividly demonstrates.

A few days ago I highlighted Energy Information Administration (EIA) data showing just how extensive the shale revolution has been. This was followed yesterday with data demonstrating the future energy shortage facing New York State. One missing part of the story I didn’t address, though, was the degree to which New York is growing its natural gas use even as it says no to natural gas by denying pipeline approvals and killing fracking. Call it New York State’s growing natural gas hypocrisy.

The Fast Approaching New York Energy Shortage

….
….

Andrew Cuomo, Governor Corruptocrat, is setting the Empire State up for a New York energy shortage that will be painful for consumers.

Earlier this year, I wrote about the poetic justice in Andrew Cuomo having to impose restrictions on energy use during the hot days of summer. Air conditioning demands in the city were stretching the system to its limits just a couple of months following his contemptible and highly political denial of a routine water quality permit for the Constitution Pipeline. I quoted a New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) report warning of the fast approaching New York energy shortage. Others are also now issuing warnings. There is, in fact, arguably a New York Energy shortage already as Andrew Cuomo fritters  time away on politically correct but ineffective solutions.

Record Natural Gas Production, Record Consumption, Game Over

….
….

The Energy Information Administration reports record natural gas production and record natural gas consumption. The game is all but over for fractivists.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) just released its Natural Gas Annual report and it demonstrates the game is all but over for fractivists. Natural gas production is up, natural gas consumption is up, exports have increased more than imports and Pennsylvania is setting new records. It’s just one page of good data after another.

Bob Howarth Drops All Pretense; Goes Full Fractivist

350.org - Tom Shepstone ReportsTom Shepstone

….
….

Like his buddy Tony Ingraffea, Bob Howarth has always been a fractivist on the Cornell University payroll but now he’s dropped every pretense of objectivity.

Bob Howarth is one-half of the Howarth Ingraffea partnership that produced perhaps the biggest lie of the fractivist movement. This Park Foundation financed duo tried and failed rather miserably to assert natural gas was dirtier than coal. It was a defensive move after natural gas replacement of coal in electricity generation started producing huge declines in CO2 and other emissions.

Fractivists needed to be able to deny the obvious; that natural gas production newly enabled by fracking was cleaning the air. Bob Howarth and Tony Ingraffea served up the needed junk science to assert gas produced more greenhouse gas than coal. It was a joke (more on that in a moment) but it got attention for a bit. The two Park shills, both of whom I’ve debated, got away with pretending it was their science and not their ideology that informed their positions. It’s now come to the point, though, that reality can no longer be denied. Howarth has dropped all pretense of objectivity and science, going full fractivist.

Canadian Pot Capital Arising from New Brunswick Double Standards?

New Brunswick Shale - Resource Wise New Brunswick ReportsLynn Farmakoulas

…

Will New Brunswick become the Canadian pot capital due to double standards? The contrast in how the marijuana is treated compared to shale gas is amazing.

New Brunswick is now planning to, literally, grow its economy. We got a hint of this on August 22 with a headline in the provincial newspaper blaring the following:

NEW BRUNSWICK’S ECONOMIC GROWTH PLAN: PUSH MARIJUANA

Aside from the obvious pun, the rest of the story is truth. How sad it is, though, how this attempt to make New Brunswick the Canadian pot capital, is being promoted without the slightest attempt to secure the “social license” demanded of the shale gas industry.

New Brunswick Fracking Indecision Inexcusable

New Brunswick Shale - Resource Wise New Brunswick ReportsLynn Farmakoulas
Spokesperson/Communications Director
Resource Wise New Brunswick

…

Indecision about New Brunswick fracking by the government is wasting what’s in the cart, letting the cart rot, and shooting the horse.

Since being elected in the Fall of 2014 the Gallant Liberal government has had exactly two decisive moments: announcing a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing in December 2014 and announcing an indefinite moratorium on hydraulic fracturing in May of 2016. The Liberal government’s plan to raise revenue in the province so far has been to hike the harmonized sales tax we pay on goods and services. Unlike our sister province of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick is sitting on possibly the largest deposit of shale gas in Canada. So, when Nova Scotia announced a moratorium it was a “meh” moment. In New Brunswick, it’s a serious matter.
